I read Eddie Hall’s book The World’s Strongest Book while traveling and found it to have some good takes.
The book has too much unnecessary repetition and fluff and should have been about 1/3rd the length it actually is. I always find it annoying when authors pad their books to make it seem longer.
I understand why they do it. People buy longer books because they feel like they’re getting “more words per dollar” but if you’re like me – time is scarce. I’d much rather get a zero-fluff 100% value book than an artificially inflated book where I have to waste hours going through the nonsense.
That said, Eddie gives us one useful piece of advice: Make the hard work as easy as possible.
“I always think, how can I build my life around whatever challenge I’m taking on, or goal I’ve set myself. Sure, it’s a bit of commitment, but it’s a commitment to making my life easier. Whenever I take on a challenge, there are always tough moments and plenty of hard work. But I always say, make the hard work as easy as possible.”
Pick what your main goal is and build your life around it. Try to make the job as easy as possible.
Here are some examples of doing that:
Challenge: Fat loss
- Not having any unhealthy foods in the house so when you feel hunger cravings, you are forced to eat healthy. Munching on junk is not an option if the junk is not in your kitchen in the first place.
- Using zero calorie drinks like diet coke to manage sugar cravings in emergencies.
- Starting your day with a black coffee (caffeine reduces appetite).
- Walking 2-3k steps after every meal to get your 10k steps done on autopilot.
- Hiring a chef who can cook healthy meals for you (if you can afford it, or learn to cook yourself).
- Eating the same foods each day.
Challenge: Waking up early
- Keep the alarm far away from your bed so you have to get up and walk a bit to turn it off.
- Prepare some coffee in a shaker the night before and keep it next to your bed so you can drink it right after waking up.
- Go to bed on time so you aren’t sleep deprived the next day.
- Don’t exercise or use screens late at night so your body is sleepy when it’s time to sleep.
- No caffeine after noon.
Challenge: Quitting Porn
- Get a girlfriend (recommended).
- Masturbate without porn (worst case scenario).
- Get a copy of Live Intentionally and do the program.
- Find ways to be less alone. Work from a coffee shop instead of working alone from home.
- Use sexual transmutation to harness your sexual energy and use it into productive endeavors.
Challenge: Studying
- Keep your phone off when studying to minimize distractions.
- Study the subjects you find hard and boring first. Don’t let the hard stuff pile on.
- Sleep enough so you actually retain what you learn. Memory and sleep are heavily linked.
- Spend more of your time studying the useful stuff and aim to get a passing grade in the nonsense.
Challenge: Dating
- Put yourself in situations where you are exposed to lots of women. For example, joining a dance class or a Toastmasters club or anything else where you are expected to be social.
- Read the entire Book of Pook.
- Cold approach at least one new girl every day.
- Create a fun lifestyle around you that all women want to be a part of.
In short, whatever your goal is – think about how you can make it as easy as possible to do it.
If you had to design your lifestyle around your goal, what changes would you make?
And then make those changes.
Hope that helps.
Your man,
Harsh Strongman
