How to Fix The Societal Problem of Obesity And Make Everyone Healthy

Obesity is a huge problem and unfortunately, there has been no scalable fix that doesn’t create dependency.

GLP-1 drugs work and help a lot of people lose weight without having to modify their habits, but because they do not change your habits, it means that people who stop using the drug put fat back on once they quit.

As a society we have a few incentives for being lean and healthy (you get treated better) but not a lot of dis-incentives for being fat and unhealthy.

This means the average person gets fatter and fatter every year until his excess body fat kills him. Today the leading causes of death are heart attacks, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. all of which are to a large extent consequences of carrying too much excess body fat.

Here in our country many of our citizens have become so desensitized to being overweight that they think it’s normal to become fat and fragile as they grow older.

They have flabby arms, loose fat hanging from everywhere, and very little muscle mass. They die decades before their time leaving behind their unfortunate children and family members who funnily repeat the same mistake simply because they lack the incentives to do otherwise.

Take this couple for example (this is a stock image used for representation purposes, not a random couple I photographed).

These people are extremely unhealthy and overweight. There is almost no muscle and lots of excess body fat everywhere.

Yet people in India would tell them they are “healthy” even though the guy is at a very high risk of a heart attack (most Indian men die from this) and the woman is at high risk of osteoporosis and osteopenia (more than 100 million women in India have this).

When I was fat in my early teens, people never told me I was fat. They just looked past it and most used the term “healthy” instead. “Harsh is a little healthy”… no I was fat. If everyone told me I was fat, I would have eaten better.

Imagine how much better and longer the lives of this couple would be if they were not fat? Imagine how bad it is for them to die if their children are still very young? Why are we doing this to them out of “care for their feelings”?

Compassion that causes net damage to the recipient is not true compassion.

In this article, I propose a new societal change that will lead to far better health for the average citizen of our country.

This system is inspired by the very same system the Spartans used to make sure their citizens do not turn into cowards.

1) Changes to legal punishments

In the current system, fit people and fat people are treated the same way under the laws of the country.

This must change so that a crime committed against an overweight person leads to a reduced punishment. At the same time, crimes committed by fat people get an enhanced punishment.

For example, if the punishment for pickpocketing is 3 months in prison, then the punishment (for a lean person) pickpocketing a fat person should only be 1 month in prison (lower sentence). A fat person who is caught pickpocketing will get 6 months in prison (higher sentence).

This will make criminals prefer targeting fat people and thus not only make society safer for the healthy but also incentivize fat people to lose weight.

2) Ineligible For Public Services But Eligible to Pay Taxes

In the current system, all citizens are given equal access to public services.

In the new system, fat people will have no access to public services but will still be obligated to pay their taxes.

To put it clearly, this means that fat people will not be allowed to use:

  • Government hospitals (it is a waste of public funds to treat problems caused by voluntary obesity)
  • Public transport like buses, taxis, trains, and flights
  • Public roads and infrastructure when riding mechanical vehicles (they are not allowed to drive cars – they must walk or cycle)
  • Not eligible to vote or contest in elections or take up any form of public office

The aim is to make life as inconvenient as possible for fat people. This gives them a very strong incentive to improve their diet and get more exercise.

In fact, exercise is forced upon them because they are not eligible to use public transport and roads. They must walk and/or use bicycles.

3) Social Ostracization

Fat people are socially and physically inferior to healthy people and must be treated as such.

A fat person cannot be allowed to smile in public. He must look down as he walks down the street and be subservient to healthy people. If he is sitting somewhere, he is obligated to give up his seat to the healthy even when the healthy person is much younger than him.

Failure to do so would attract punishment like heavy fines, jail time, or public whipping like they do in Singapore and Islamic countries.

There should be a shame factor that comes with being related to obese people. He must not be allowed to marry or have children because no child deserves to be subject to his genetics for their entire life.

When a fat person dies, no funeral is performed. His body is thrown in the trash for dogs to eat.

Note: Women who have given birth are allowed a 3 year exception to all these rules. 3 years after giving birth, we expect them to be back to a healthy body fat otherwise they will be treated as any other fat citizen.

Before you think I’m unhinged:

Now I know many of you think I’ve completely lost it… but I’ve not.

People do not understand that their compassion causes them more problems than they think.

You may object against things like legal discrimination against fat people, but do you not realize something obvious… you would almost never need to do it?

ALMOST NOBODY would get fat under a culture such as the one I propose.

The teenager who starts putting on excess body fat will lose all happiness and status in life and will start controlling what he puts in his mouth.

Instead of growing up to be a fat adult, he will be a lean and healthy person. He will forget the punishment received at the hands of his betters but the good health will stay with him for the rest of his life.

This system has worked before, and the Spartans have used it to ensure their citizens are always brave in battle:

…ensure that the brave should have happiness, and the coward misery.

For in other states when a man proves a coward, the only consequence is that he is called a coward. He goes to the same market as the brave man, sits beside him, attends the same gymnasium, if he chooses. But in Lacedaemon everyone would be ashamed to have a coward with him at the mess or to be matched with him in a wrestling bout.

Often when sides are picked for a game of ball he is the odd man left out: in the chorus he is banished to the ignominious place; in the streets he is bound to make way; when he occupies a seat he must needs give it up, even to a junior;

he must support his spinster relatives at home and must explain to them why they are old maids: he must make the best of a fireside without a wife, and yet pay forfeit for that: he may not stroll about with a cheerful countenance, nor behave as though he were a man of unsullied fame, or else he must submit to be beaten by his betters.

Small wonder, I think, that where such a load of dishonour is laid on the coward, death seems preferable to a life so dishonoured, so ignominious.

– Xenophon: Constitution of the Spartans

About 2 years ago, my wife lost her 38 year old uncle to a heart attack. The dude was obese.

He left behind his wife and his two teenage children who will now grow up without a father.

Imagine how much better things would be for his family if he lived under our system. He would not have gotten fat in the first place or would have lost all of his body fat in less than a year and a half.

His children would still have their father in good health and his wife would not be a widow.

Sure it would be a shitty year or two as he lost the weight. He would be disallowed from using public transport, have to look down as he walked, not be allowed to smile, and be treated as a subhuman by his betters.

The unhappiness from the obesity would pass and he would be a changed man by the end of it. He would still be here.

But because our society is filled with compassionate faggots, I am the one called “unhinged” for proposing this while their compassion has led to his death, his children becoming fatherless, and his wife becoming a widow.

A society that rewards weakness and debauchery will get exactly that… weakness and debauchery.

The solution is to create disincentives for being fat wherever it is possible – legal, physical, and social.

Jail them more. Make them submit to their betters. Do not allow them to have any social status. Make them think twice before they put any junk food in their mouth. Take every happiness out of their life except the happiness of losing weight.

Do this and all shall be healthy.

That’s all for this piece.

Harsh Strongman
